I often wonder how, in say 2,000 years if people are still around, abortion will be explained in the history classes. Just like we wonder how human sacrifices by the Aztecs could have been done, how will abortion be explained. At least the Aztecs thought they had a purpose for it.

I love how this is what pro-lifers think abortion is. Like it’s this new, recent invention that liberals thought of JUST to kill babies. Like forms of abortion haven’t been around since FOREVER. For fuck’s sake. I’d be willing to bet an Aztec aborted without considering it human sacrifice, BECAUSE IT ISN’T.

Silphium, a powerful & well known herbal abortifacient (abortion-inducing substance) is said to have been harvested so much by the Greeks that it effectively became extinct. In England, abortion didn’t even become illegal until 1803 & I’m betting it was around the same time for the US. I think it’s a sure fact of life that abortion has been around for eons. People don’t like to admit it, but it’s entirely part of the human condition, as are any number of issues relating to sex & reproduction. I can only hope that abortion rates in 2000 years (given that we haven’t destroyed ourselves by then…) will have decreased dramatically due to access to birth control. Of course, the pro-life mantra does nothing to further this cause, so we’re just stuck in the same cycle of blame, over & over again.
